We first heard about Gill Learning Centers, and specifically Mickey Gill, from friends. Their son had attended classes at Gill Learning Centers, when he decided that he wanted to enter the IB program at Colonel By, and they had been impressed with Mickey and what he had accomplished with their son in a relatively short period of time.
When we first met with Mickey, he gave our son an assessment test to determine his current level in math and English. While our son wrote the assessment test, we talked to Mickey about his background and philosophy about education. He is a wealth of information about the IB program and its requirements, and strategies for success once in the program. It quickly became apparent to us that underlying Mickey’s work is a deep desire for his students to succeed and grow. He is invested in their achievements and cares about them individually.
I think our son learned more from Mickey’s classes than he did from his school’s math and English classes. Although he was always strong in math at school, he learned new concepts that put him ahead of his class. In English, I saw a marked improvement in his grammar and spelling.
Beyond the improvements in Math and English, our son also learned what I like to call life lessons. Hard work pays off. Short-term sacrifices (like Sunday morning classes) resulted in long-term gains (getting into the IB program). He learned strategies around studying and writing tests. He actually had to study for Mickey’s classes, in contrast to school, where he never seemed to need to study yet still received high marks. In addition, Mickey gave the students practice tests for the CAT, so he was not walking into an unfamiliar, stressful situation when writing the CAT.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Gill Learning Centers to any parents whose children wish to enter the IB program.

Mickey at Gill Learning Centers worked closely with RD making sure he was doing all the work that was assigned to him. Mickey checked that he had done the work. He tested RD to make sure his learning was good, by providing many practice questions that tested every facet of calculations. It was very thorough, he picked up even the minutest of weaknesses and worked with RD to correct them and learn from them. Gill Learning Centers has and still is an important part of my education. From improving my Math and English knowledge to helping me better understand Physics. My English and Math comprehension has drastically changed in a positive way over the course of the program. After completing the IB prep program, I coasted through High school English and Math due to learning the materials through the prep program. Since I was in French Immersion for 13 years my English had been absolutely terrible before going through the program. Now I am achieving marks in the high 90’s. I would recommend this program for everyone, even if you believe you are doing well it will be a big help to you.
